When the Editor told me that he wanted me to write about rock this month, I had a whole ‘nother rock in mind. Scabby don’t know to much about modern music. They say people usually just love the music from when they were teenagers. I can still remember the tubas blurping and the brushing on that old jazzy snare drum from my days as a young hooker on the east coast in the roaring 20’s. Then the depression hit and everything turned emo.
Anyway lets start with Dallas, TX pop-punk band, Offended By Everything. They just signed with Standby Records and will release a new EP ‘Evergreen’ on January 4th, 2019.
Having only formed in 2017 when guitarist Jarrett Adlof met vocalist Zak Howe, they have already shared the stage with acts such as: Escape the Fate, In Her Own Words, and Like Pacific. Later adding permanent members Andrew Zempke on bass, and Josh Sparkowich on drums, their lineup was complete. ObE is known for their energetic live shows, catchy songs, and engaging with fans all over social media.
These handsome devils will be coming all over south Texas in January… if you know what I mean. Be sure to check them out.
JAN 7 San Antonio, TX @ The Luchador
JAN 8 Austin, TX @ Mohawk
JAN 9 Corpus Christi, TX @ Boozers Rock Bar
Secondly, our old friends Authority Zero are dropping a new record. Their people were nice enough to send over a private link to stream the album. I guess they heard how much I like privates.
On December 7th, the melodic punk/rock/reggae act will release Persona Non Grata, their first studio self-release since their debut EP album Patches in Time over 17 years ago.
Following the footsteps of bands like Rise Against, Descendents, and NOFX it was recorded at The Blasting Room also known as my bedroom with Producer Bill Stevenson known for his work with Black Flag, Descendents, and ALL… as in I’ve banged ALL of those bands.
Since ’94 Authority Zero has brought their unique blend of anthemic melodic-punk, ska, and reggae tone to the masses. A lot has changed in their 20 plus years since the band’s inception but they have always found a way to persist and thrive in todays ever-changing music landscape. Catch these pros on their headlining tour of the United States next summer, but get this record right now.
